About the program
SMART Recovery is a free group program that supports people to change unhealthy behaviours around alcohol and other drugs, gambling, and other concerns. SMART Recovery groups help participants:
- Increase and sustain motivation for change
- Cope with urges and cravings
- Manage thoughts, feelings and behaviours
- Build mastery over decision making to help lead a meaningful life.
How does it work?
SMART Recovery draws on evidence-based alcohol and other drug treatment tools including cognitive behavioural therapy and motivational interviewing to help participants change their behaviours.
An experienced peer facilitator or AOD clinician will begin each session by checking in to see how your previous week has been, before leading discussion around behaviour change and supporting participants to share solutions with each other.
By the end of each session you will have a 7-day plan for the next week in line with your behaviour change goals.
